Venom is based on the Muscle Ridge 28 hull. Foam-cored sandwich composite construction throughout gives the hull a solid ride in the water. The dark blue hull has some signs of wear from being part of the commercial fishing fleet. The cuddy cabin is a simple work platform up forward, all gelcoated and ready to go. There are Beckson port lights and a 24x24 escape hatch forward. Venom is decked out with a 10 hydraulic pot hauler, stainless steel davit, power steering, VHF radio, JRC radar and chart plotter, deck halogen fog lights, Bomar deck hatches for the main bilge and lazarette area, commercial stainless steel mooring bit, chocks and cleats with a solid plate stainless steel rudder. Drive shaft seal and rudder seal are both drip-less, propulsion shaft has dual cutlass bearings in a shaft tube while the rudder post is solid composite construction chemically bonded to the hull No need for repacking and more importantly: NO SHAFT LOGS TO LEAK!
The engine is a SisuDiesel 620DSBIM. This turbo-charged, inter-cooled in-line 6 cylinder diesel has a powerful heartbeat producing 300+ hp in a small package, only 6.6 liters. Simple in design and extremely easy to work on this engine has mechanically controlled injection, ensuring no issues with new fuel regulations or tempermental electronic devices prone to failure. Coupled to that much power is a ZF two-speed transmission, switching from a ratio of 2:1 to 1.5:1 the sudden rush of speed makes your heart race. Driving all of this force into the water is a solid 1.75 stainless steel shaft with a beefy three-bladed bronze propeller fixed to the tail end. The dual wet exhaust immediately gets attention when you fire up, yet is quiet on the mooring or cruising through the marina. With a combined tankage of 72 gallons, this economical engine has plenty of range with a comfortable cruise of 25 mpg with a top end speed approaching 40! We are confident that there is more speed lurking inside the engine, just waiting to be discovered.
Venom is currently in a working lobster boat configuration but can easily be configured into a day cruiser, to a lobster yacht, or to anything in between.
